KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 7): SIRIM Bhd and the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) have inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to accelerate the Sustainable, Green and Smart Cities agenda.
In a statement today, it said the MOU aims to drive the nation’s sustainable, green, and smart cities agenda to position Malaysia as a globally competitive and societal-centric powerhouse by 2030.
SIRIM Bhd and MIGHT plan to explore strategic areas for Malaysia, such as smart manufacturing, green energy, biodegradable products, and many more.
The MOU was signed virtually today between SIRIM president and group chief executive, Datuk Dr Ahmad Sabirin Arshad and MIGHT president and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Mohd Yusoff Sulaiman, witnessed by SIRIM and MIGHT chairman Tan Sri Dr Ir Ahmad Tajuddin Ali.
Mohd Yusoff said together with SIRIM, MIGHT can offer a unique value proposition to the public and private sectors in promoting the growth of the high technology sector and provide greater emphasis on developing indigenous technology and innovation to transform Malaysia from a technology user to a technology creator.
“The MOU will integrate our resources and expertise in developing current and future strategic industries and promote sustainable development best practices through science, technology and industry.
“Our first customers are the industry players and innovators,” he added.
Ahmad Sabirin said the collaboration would provide strategic direction to key stakeholders towards the green and sustainability agenda, cutting across key industry sectors in Perak and Melaka.
“Through MIGHT, we hope to work with relevant stakeholders and provide consultancy and technical assistance in developing the Perak Sustainable Greenprint 2030 document.
“We will facilitate seven proposed Quick Win projects for industry clusters such as waste, food security, biodegradables, sustainability and smart cities, biodiversity and environment, green energy, as well as a carbon trading system in the state,” he said.
For Melaka, Ahmad Sabirin said SIRIM will assist MIGHT to develop the Smart Melaka Blueprint 2035 and explore potential technology solutions for smart and sustainable cities based on four pillars, namely SMART Governance and Digital Economy; SMART Energy; SMART Mobility; and SMART Living and Security.
“SIRIM is confident that more can be explored together, including the possibility of technology transfer, technology adoption, training, and providing technical service for the benefit of the nation and industries,” he added.
