MIGHT together with UNITEN, TNBR and PTHM has successfully organized the Smart Grid Awareness and Demonstration Project Launching Event in Melaka. This event was carefully designed and targeting the involvement of key stakeholders; federal and state’s policymakers, industries, academia, and local governments. The Smart Grid Awareness and Demonstration Project Launching Event was launched by Chief Minister of Melaka, HE Datuk Seri Utama Haji Sulaiman bin Md. Ali with the presence of State’s Excos, mayors and all heads of state departments and GLCs. This event also covered by numbers of mainstream media. The event also participated by federal key stakeholders i.e. KPKT’s Secretary General, MIGHT’s President and CEO, Energy Commission, TNB (national energy company), Vice Chancellor of UNITEN and Managing Director of TNB Research. The event managed to attract 158 participants, mostly from Melaka. MIGHT showed their appreciations to the technology contributors in Melaka that allowed their technologies to be integrated with this smart grid demonstration project i.e. large-scale solar farm, EV charging system, BEMS, AMI, solar thermal system etc. All four municipals in Melaka had agreed to become the technology contributors and lead the initiatives in Melaka. They were Majlis Bandaraya Melaka Bersejarah (MBMB), Majlis Perbandaran Alor Gajah (MPAG), Majlis Perbandaran Jasin (MPJ) and Majlis Perbandaran Hang Tuah Jaya (MPHTJ). Other contributors come from various types of background i.e. state GLCs, industries and universities.

As a way forward, MIGHT had identified potential organizations to contribute to this smart grid demonstration project. These organizations consist of a combination of state government parties and industry players in Melaka who have sustainable and renewable energy technologies that will be connected to a smart grid. MIGHT also welcomes the participation of all stakeholders to be directly or indirectly involved in the success of the smart grid project. Apart from that, MIGHT, UNITEN, TNBR and PTHM will continue with engagement and outreach programmes on the smart grid benefits to the public communities, NGOs and community leader in Melaka.
