A smart city is an ecosystem that consist of many different actors, subsystems, and institutional logics with their interactions augmented by various technological applications. It is important to account for contextual conditions for smart cities in developing countries. Large gaps can be observed between cities authorities and the industry players even within the same country. The standards for smart cities are less discussed because it is not seen as a thrilling topic of conversation. Smart Cities constitute a new planning paradigm relevant for both fields of city development and technology adoption. It is important to understand the role of standards for smart cities that have already been developed internationally . Currently the development of the Malaysian Standards for Smart Cities is an ongoing process.
