4th Training Session: Leadership Training for Municipalities on PPP Towards Development of Smart Cities

The session started with Introduction to Municipal Readiness Tool and Municipal readiness self-assessment to participants by the moderator , Mr. Jeffrey Delmon, Senior PPP Specialist, World Bank, Singapore followed by Panel session: Experiences implementing Municipal PPP programs. The panelists including Mr. Hazmi Yusof, Managing Director, Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Sdn Bhd. Madam Maimunah Jaffar, Head Department Planning & Compliance (Sustainability and Smart City), Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) and Mr. Abhijit Baumik, Senior PPP Specialist, Delhi, have shared their views and perspectives in implementing PPP Programs.

Lesson Learned from the panel session as follow:
1. PPP can deliver projects effectively (right time and right cost).
2. Improved the quality of procurements.
3. Introduced a more strategic approach to infrastructure investment
4. Need a champion of the project in order to success.
5. Municipals should have clear outcome and understanding of the benefit and impact to the citizens.
6. Seek financing for most financial partners where it will be key success of PPP/win-win situation
7. Understand the urban challenge and prioritise what projects need to be done in municipal.
